Combination Therapy

Psychiatric Care That Treats the Whole Picture — Medication and Therapeutic Support, From the Same Provider.

D&Y's combination therapy integrates psychiatric medication management with supportive therapeutic techniques — within the scope of outpatient psychiatric practice — for patients whose conditions benefit from both.

Many psychiatric conditions respond best to a combination of medication and therapeutic support — not one or the other in isolation. D&Y integrates CBT principles, Motivational Interviewing techniques, and psychoeducation into psychiatric appointments for patients whose treatment plans call for it — and coordinates actively with any outside therapist already involved in your care.

What This Is

Clear About What We Offer — and What We Do Not.

Understanding the scope of this service is the most important step. Honest framing is what makes combination therapy at D&Y genuinely useful — and genuinely trustworthy.

What Combination Therapy at D&Y Includes

Psychiatric evaluation and accurate diagnosis as the foundation of all care — learn about the evaluation process
Evidence-based medication management with structured follow-up
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) principles integrated into medication appointments where clinically relevant
Motivational Interviewing techniques to support treatment engagement and behavior change
Psychoeducation — helping you understand your diagnosis, your medication, and the relationship between them
Active coordination and communication with any outside therapist involved in your care
Referrals to trusted therapist partners when standalone psychotherapy is warranted alongside medication

What Combination Therapy at D&Y Does Not Include

Intensive or long-term standalone psychotherapy — this is a psychiatric practice, not a therapy practice
EMDR, DBT, or specialized trauma processing modalities
Couples therapy, family therapy, or group therapy
Crisis counseling or emergency mental health intervention
Psychotherapy as a substitute for medication when medication is clinically indicated
This is not a limitation of Denis's clinical skill — it is an accurate description of what outpatient psychiatry is designed to do well. When standalone intensive psychotherapy is what a patient needs, D&Y refers clearly and professionally to trusted therapist partners. Getting the right care matters more than staying in this practice.
Is This Right for You?

Combination Therapy Works Best When Both
Medication and Therapeutic Support Are Indicated.

Not every patient needs combination therapy — and Your provider will be direct about which approach makes the most clinical sense for your situation.

Case 01

When Medication Alone Is Not Enough

Some conditions — particularly anxiety, PTSD, depression, and OCD — respond significantly better to a combination of medication and structured therapeutic support than to medication alone. D&Y identifies these cases at evaluation and builds the treatment plan accordingly.

Case 02

When You Are Already in Therapy

If you are working with a therapist and need psychiatric medication management that is coordinated with your therapeutic work rather than siloed from it, combination therapy at D&Y is built for exactly that situation. D&Y communicates with your therapist and aligns treatment goals across both relationships.

Case 03

When You Are Navigating a Major Transition

Life events — job loss, relationship changes, grief, career transitions — can destabilize otherwise well-managed conditions. Combination therapy provides both the medication stability and the practical behavioral support to move through the transition without losing ground.

Coordinated Care

D&Y Does Not Practice in Isolation.

D&Y explicitly values collaboration with therapists and other providers. Psychiatric medication management without therapeutic support is often insufficient for conditions like PTSD, complex anxiety, and mood disorders. We do not pretend otherwise.

If you are already seeing a therapist, Your provider will ask for their contact information and, with your consent, communicate directly to ensure your medication plan and your therapeutic goals are aligned. You should not have to be the conduit between your providers.

If you need a therapist but do not have one, D&Y actively cultivates referral relationships with trusted therapist partners. He refers with specific recommendations — not a generic "you should try therapy" suggestion — and follows up to make sure the referral actually connects.

How Coordination Works

1

Evaluation

Your provider evaluates whether your condition is best served by medication alone, combination therapy, or primarily therapeutic support with medication as secondary. That conversation starts at your very first appointment.

2

Alignment

With your consent, D&Y communicates with your current therapist or refers to a trusted partner if you do not yet have one. The goal is a unified treatment direction — not two providers working in parallel with no contact.

3

Ongoing Coordination

Treatment goals are reviewed at every psychiatric visit. If your therapist recommends adjustments based on what they are seeing, We are receptive to that input. Your care team works together — and you are not left translating between them.

Therapeutic Approaches

The Evidence-Based Techniques D&Y Integrates
Into Psychiatric Appointments.

These are not add-ons or extras — they are woven into the clinical conversation when your treatment plan calls for them.

CBT Principles

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

One of the most well-researched therapeutic approaches for anxiety, depression, and OCD. D&Y incorporates CBT-informed thinking into medication appointments — helping patients recognize patterns in their thinking and behavior that affect their symptoms and their treatment response. In practice: you start to understand why certain situations trigger certain responses, and what to do about them.

MI Techniques

Motivational Interviewing

A collaborative, evidence-based communication approach that supports treatment engagement and behavior change. Particularly useful for patients who are ambivalent about medication, uncertain about diagnosis, or struggling to follow through on treatment plans. In practice: Denis meets you where you actually are, not where he expects you to be.

Psychoeducation

Understanding Your Own Care

One of the most underutilized tools in psychiatric practice. D&Y ensures every patient understands their diagnosis, the mechanism of their medication, what to expect, and how to evaluate whether treatment is working. In practice: you leave each appointment knowing more than when you walked in — not less. Patients who understand their own care are more engaged, and get better outcomes.

Relevant Conditions

Conditions That Respond Well to Medication
and Therapeutic Support Together.

The following conditions at D&Y are often best managed with a combination approach — D&Y evaluates each case individually and recommends the appropriate level of therapeutic integration.

Not every patient with these conditions needs combination therapy — Your provider makes that determination at evaluation based on clinical presentation and the patient's own goals.
