Optional GeneSight Pharmacogenomic Testing

D&Y offers optional GeneSight pharmacogenomic (DNA) testing for patients who have had limited response or significant side effects with multiple medications.

Understanding the Test

What GeneSight Tells Us — and What It Doesn't

Knowing what this test can — and cannot — do helps you make an informed decision about whether it's the right step for your care.

What the test does provide

GeneSight gives information about how your body may metabolize (break down) certain medications, and your potential risk for side effects. We use this data to help individualize your treatment plan with greater precision.

What the test does not do

This test does not tell us which medication will be "best" or guarantee effectiveness. It is one tool among several — not a definitive answer on its own. Clinical judgment, your history, and your goals still guide every decision.

Bottom line: GeneSight adds a layer of biological context to your care. It helps your provider ask better questions and make more informed decisions — especially when previous medication experiences have been frustrating or unclear.
Simple Process

How the Test Works

The process is designed to be as low-barrier as possible — no office visit, no blood draw, no hassle.

1

Simple Cheek Swab at Home

Testing uses a painless cheek swab — no blood draw, no lab visit. You complete the collection in the comfort of your own home.

2

Kit Mailed Directly to You

The test kit is mailed directly to your address. Once your sample is collected, you send it back using the prepaid return included in the kit.

3

Insurance & Financial Assistance

GeneSight works directly with your insurance to cover the cost. A financial assistance program is also available to help limit out-of-pocket expenses for those who qualify.

Who It's For

When GeneSight Might Be Considered

This testing is optional and not necessary for every patient. It tends to be most relevant in the following situations:

  • Limited response to multiple medications — if you've tried several treatments and haven't seen adequate improvement, your metabolism may be playing a role.
  • Significant side effects with multiple medications — if you've experienced uncomfortable or unexpected side effects across different prescriptions, genetic factors may offer some answers.
  • Patients who want more information — you want to be an active, informed participant in your treatment and would like additional data to help guide the conversation with your provider.
