Veterans & First Responders

Psychiatric Care From a Provider Who Has Served — and Who Trained at the VA.

Denis Grigorov, PMHNP-BC, is an Air Force veteran and VA-trained psychiatric nurse practitioner who provides telehealth psychiatric care for veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders across California — with VA Community Care and TriWest accepted.

You should not have to explain military culture, the complexity of transition, or why asking for help is not simple in an environment where self-sufficiency is foundational. Denis has been in that environment. He does not need the explanation.

Provider is a 10-Year Air Force Veteran

A Provider Who Does Not Need to Be Briefed on the Culture.

Denis spent 10 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force before entering psychiatric training. He then completed a 12-month psychiatric residency at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System — one of the most clinically complex VA psychiatric programs in the country, serving veterans with combat PTSD, complex trauma, depression, and the long-term consequences of service. That combination of lived military experience and specialized VA clinical training is not common in outpatient psychiatry. Denis brings both.

He also understands something that is difficult to teach: that many veterans and first responders do not present saying "I have PTSD." They present saying their sleep has changed, that they get irritable with their family, that they cannot seem to settle back into their life. Denis knows how to evaluate that presentation — and how to have the conversation that follows with the directness and respect the culture expects.

Cultural Competency You Will Not Have to Explain

Denis served. He understands the identity, the stoicism, the complicated relationship with help-seeking, and the specific dynamics of transitioning out of a culture built around self-sufficiency. You will not spend your appointment educating your provider.

VA Community Care & TriWest Accepted

D&Y is credentialed to accept VA Community Care and TriWest coverage — making high-quality psychiatric care accessible through the same insurance pathways veterans already have, without navigating a large system or waiting months for an appointment.

Telehealth Statewide — No Commute, No Waiting Room

All appointments are via secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth. You can access consistent psychiatric care from anywhere in California — at home, at the station, wherever is most comfortable and private.

What D&Y Evaluates and Treats for Veterans and First Responders.

The following conditions are common in military and first responder populations — D&Y evaluates all of them with the same clinical rigor and without the assumption that symptoms are just occupational hazards.

Many veterans and first responders present with more than one condition — PTSD and depression, burnout and anxiety, or sleep disruption driving mood instability. D&Y evaluates the full clinical picture at every assessment, not a single symptom in isolation.

The Three Things That Most Often Get Between Veterans and First Responders and the Care They Need.

01

"I'm not sure it's bad enough."

Many people in high-stress, high-performance cultures do not seek care until functioning has been significantly impaired — because the bar for "bad enough" in those cultures is set at collapse, not at significant cost. The actual bar for a psychiatric evaluation is much lower: if symptoms are affecting your sleep, your relationships, your work performance, or your enjoyment of the parts of life that used to matter — that is enough.

02

"I don't want it on my record."

Concerns about how mental health care affects security clearances, fitness for duty, or professional standing are legitimate — and worth discussing directly in a consultation. Your provider understands these concerns and can help you think through them clearly before committing to anything. An introductory inquiry does not create a clinical record.

03

"I've tried the system and it didn't work."

Fragmented VA care, long waits, and providers who did not understand the context are common experiences. D&Y is not the VA system — it is a small, individual practice where You see the same provider at every appointment. VA Community Care and TriWest accepted means you can access D&Y through your existing coverage without paying out of pocket.

VA Community Care, TriWest, and Major Commercial Insurance — All Accepted.

Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare may be eligible for VA Community Care — which allows them to receive mental health care from approved community providers like D&Y when the VA cannot provide timely access or when community care is otherwise authorized. D&Y is credentialed to accept VA Community Care and TriWest, the managed care contractor for the VA's Community Care Network in the Western United States.

For active-duty service members and their families, TRICARE coverage may apply depending on your plan and eligibility. For veterans not using VA coverage, D&Y also accepts most major commercial insurance plans and Medicare. If you are not certain what your coverage includes, the best place to start is an appointment — no commitment required.
